5 Tips to Boost Your Self-Confidence

Posted by Colleen Rothschild on

Do you struggle with self-image issues? If so, you aren't alone. Millions of men and women view their bodies in a negative light. The good news is that you can boost your self-confidence by following some simple steps.

#1) Stay Active

Exercise (or lack there of) plays a direct role in the way in which you view yourself. People with physically active lifestyles generally have better self-confidence than people with sedentary lifestyles. This is due to the fact that exercising releases positive mood-altering chemicals within the body known as endorphins – a phenomenon that's often associated with a “runner's high.” You don't have to necessarily hit the gym for a strenuous weight training workout each and every day, but you should get into the habit of performing light-to-moderate exercise for a minimum of 30 minutes daily.

#2) Eat Right

As the saying goes, you are what you eat, holds true in regards to self-confidence. There's nothing wrong with an occasional fast food meal from your local burger joint, but basing your entire diet around processed foods such as this will take its toll on both your body and mind. If you're looking to improve your health and self-confidence, focus your diet on lean meats (e.g. fish, turkey and chicken), fresh fruits and vegetables, and whole grains.

#3) Look Your Best

I know this probably sounds like common sense, but taking the time to groom yourself can make a world of difference in your self-confidence. Rolling out of bed and tossing on yesterday's clothes isn't the best way to present yourself. Whether you're going to work, the gym, grocery shopping, or just hanging out with friends, take the time to properly groom yourself. Not only will you look better, but you'll also feel better – and that makes it all worth it.

#4) Pamper Yourself

When was the last time you treated yourself to a day at the spa? Getting a manicure, pedicure and facial will leave you feeling rejuvenated and pampered, which subsequently will boost your self-confidence. Regardless of how busy your day-to-day life is, you need to make time to pamper yourself. Because after all, everyone deserves a little pampering once in a while.

#5) Positive Thinking

Sometimes all it takes to improve your self-confidence is new thought process. Instead of focusing on the negative aspects of your body, focus on the positives. Perhaps you have a smooth, even complexion that other women would die for, or maybe you have healthy, beautiful hair.

Surprising Benefits of Vitamin C

Posted by Colleen Rothschild on

Vitamin C (also known as ascorbic acid) is a powerful water-soluble nutrient found in a wide variety of foods. It may not cure or prevent the common cold, but this naturally occurring compound yields some impressive benefits when consumed on a regular basis. How? Let's take a look.

Fights Oxidation

Vitamin C is well-known for its antioxidant properties. Why is this important? Well, our bodies are exposed to harmful chemicals known as free radicals on a daily basis; they are in the air we breathe, the beverages we drink, the food we consume, and even some of the products we use on our skin. As these free radicals begin to accumulate within the body, it increases the risk of destructive oxidation taking place, which can destroy otherwise healthy cells. Thankfully, vitamin C protects against this destructive behavior, neutralizing harmful free radicals.

Blood Flow

Yet another reason why you should consume more vitamin C is because it promotes healthier blood flow. Several studies have shown that vitamin C to improve dilation of arteries and blood vessels, resulting in lower blood pressure, as well as lower risk of heart attack and stroke. This alone should be reason enough to include more vitamin C-rich foods in your daily diet.

Heart Health

According to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in both men and women in the U.S., taking the lives of approximately 600,000 people each year. However, new research suggests that vitamin C may protect the heart by reducing inflammation, eliminating plaque buildup, and strengthening the walls of the arteries. Dr. James Enstrom, professor at the University of California, found that women who consumed 300mg of vitamin C daily were 40% less likely to develop heart disease and men who consumed 300mg of vitamin C daily were 50% less likely to develop heart disease.

Skin Protection

Vitamin C has been used to treat and prevent skin conditions for centuries. Even today, hundreds of cosmetic and beauty products contain this powerful compound. Vitamin C protects skin from the sun's harmful ultraviolet A/B rays, which in prevents early aging and wrinkles, and it reduces the risk of certain types of skin cancer like melanoma. In search of a good vitamin C treatment to add to your skincare routine? Check out our Vitamin C Treatment Complex.

Remember...you are what you eat! Here are some foods to incorporate into your diet that contain the highest concentrations of vitamin C:

  • Oranges
  • Papaya
  • Broccoli
  • Bell peppers
  • Strawberries
  • Pineapple
  • Kiwi
  • Cantaloupe
  • Cauliflower
  • Tomatoes
  • Peas
  • Blueberries
  • Cranberries
Note: Vitamin C levels begin to drop when food is cooked or stored for long periods of time, so the fresher the better!

Six Simple Steps to Healthier Skin

Six Simple Steps to Healthier Skin

2015 is in full swing and so are all of those resolutions you made! Making healthier changes in the new year doesn’t have to be hard…here are six simple steps to healthier skin and a healthier you in the new year.

1) Drink More Water.  Hydrating from the inside is important for glowing, healthy skin. Drinking the recommended eight glasses a day might seem a little difficult, but the benefits will be worth it! Add some lemon or cucumber to your water to change it up a bit and to give yourself an extra boost.

2) Wash Your Face. Forgetting to wash your face, even one day, can cause havoc to our skin. And once a pesky pimple shows up…who knows how long it will last! Our Radiant Cleansing Balm is my favorite cleanser. It removes ALL makeup and the days’ dirt and debris!

3) Get More Sleep. Try to get a good nights rest every night. Lack of sleep can cause our skin to look lackluster, puffy and give us dark circles. The more sleep you can get the better chances that your skin will glow!

4) Moisturize. Keeping the skin’s moisture balanced is key to clean, healthy, radiant skin. It’s even more important to use now in this cold winter season when our skin is more susceptible to becoming dry and flaky. Our Sheer Renewal Cream offers weightless hydration to all skin types both morning and night.

5) Snack Smart. Believe it or not, what you eat affects your skin. But you knew that! Throw a few healthy snacks in your purse when you are traveling, heading to the office,  or even running errands…that way you can avoid bad temptations at the coffee stands or in the checkout line.

6) Relax More, Stress Less. Taking time for yourself away from the days busyness is more important than you think. Too much stress can cause breakouts, as well as other more serious health issues. The next time you have some downtime, make it a point to grab your favorite magazine or book and lounge in your favorite chair, or take a yoga class at a nearby studio.

What are you doing in 2015 to become a healthier, more confident you? Tell me below.

Benefits of Retinol

Benefits of Retinol

For years, new anti-aging products have been introduced on the market however nothing has been able to outlast or show longer lasting results than those with the ingredient Retinol. Why is this? The plain and simple answer is…because it works!

I like to think of Retinol as tried-and-true when it comes to effective anti-aging. It is, and continues to be, one of the most powerful and popular anti-aging ingredients that you can use to help transform your skin. It works to help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, clear pores and improve dull skin, resulting in a brighter looking complexion.

We are often asked, “What age should I start using a Retinol product?”

The answer is that it’s never too early to start using anti-aging skincare. If you are in your 20’s start using it now to help prevent, if you are in your 30-40’s, use it to halt the signs of aging, and 50’s plus, use it to reverse the signs of aging.

So what makes our Retinol Treatment Complex different from other products containing retinol? Not only does it contain the maximum amount of retinol you can use without a prescription, but we also use a Proprietary Delivery System called Level E3, which takes our products to a whole new level. Level E3 is responsible for transporting active ingredients to targeted areas. It also extends the efficiency and efficacy of all ingredients, giving you the best results possible. These factors are the reason why customers often refer to our Retinol Treatment Complex as their “holy grail.”

How and When to Use:

Your skin is most receptive to renewal at night, so the best time to use your Retinol Treatment is in the evening. Apply dime size amount, evenly to skin, wait one minute for absorption, then follow with a moisturizer such as our Sheer Renewal Cream or Extreme Recovery Cream. If excessive dryness or redness occurs, reduce use to every other day. Don’t forget to protect your skin throughout the day and use a sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher, like our Daily Defense SPF 25.

Have questions about Retinol or your skincare routine in general? Ask me below or send me an email. I look forward to hearing from you!
